WELD COUNTY, Colo. -- A total of 11 Weld County residents are sick with the West Nile virus and Zika virus, health officials reported on Monday.

The Weld County Department of Health says throughout the summer, there have been seven confirmed cases of West Nile virus.

Officials say four residents also have contracted travel-acquired Zika virus. Across the state, 21 Colorado residents have contracted the Zika virus after traveling out of the state.

Mark Wallace, the executive director of the Health Department, said Colorado is considered too high and dry for the Zika virus-carrying mosquito, but advised residents to use caution if traveling to Zika virus-prone areas.

Even still, mosquitos throughout Colorado can carry the West Nile virus.

"The public health message is to avoid getting bit by any mosquitoes," Wallace said.

All residents who have fallen ill in Weld County are currently recovering, officials said.
