STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. — Four West Routt Fire Protection District firefighters were injured when the engine they were in rolled down a hillside on the edge of Valley Drive on Routt County Road 68A Saturday.

The engine rolled multiple times before stopping 255 feet down the hillside. The four firefighters on board were buckled up and taken to area hospitals where they were treated and released, according to West Routt Fire Chief Trevor Guire.

Engine 7-1 was responding to a garage fire at 40700 Peak View Court when it broke loose on the steep and icy road and rolled off the edge. Speed was not considered a factor.

Crews spent Sunday attempting to recover the engine.

The garage fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
