DENVER – Four Colorado JCPenney locations are among the 138 scheduled to close nationwide in the coming months.
The retailer released the full list Friday and includes stores in Longmont, Fort Morgan, Sterling and Glenwood Springs. The chain currently has about 20 locations in the state.
The closings should take place by the end of June. JCPenney will also close two distribution centers. It had 105,000 employees manning 1,021 stores as of a year ago.
JCPenney joins a list of traditional retailers scaling back brick-and-mortar stores. Sears Holdings, which includes the Sears and Kmart brands, announced plans to close 150 stores last month, including the last remaining location in the city of Denver.
