LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. – Several homes were placed on pre-evacuation orders late Saturday afternoon as a brush fire burned north of Wellington in Larimer County.
High winds and warm weather were to blame for the growing blaze, according to Wellington Fire Department spokeswoman Rachael Gonzales.
Gonzales said the fire was burning off of County Road 92 at mile marker 288 -- approximately 20 minutes north of Fort Collins.
The Cattleman fire, estimated to be 2,000-acres in size as of 9 p.m., was reported sometime after 4 o'clock.

Pre-evacuation orders were lifted before 7 p.m. The fire was 100 percent contained overnight, Gonzales said in an update Sunday morning.
Wellington is about 12 miles north of Fort Collins.
