GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. — Three people on board an airplane survived after crashing south of Silt in Garfield County Sunday afternoon.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the crash around 2:40 p.m. and located the aircraft near Chair Bar Road, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

Crews from Garfield County Search and Rescue arrived on scene shortly after and extracted two of the occupants from the plane. The extent of their injuries are unknown.

As of late Sunday afternoon, crews were continuing their efforts to pull the third person from the wreckage. But the rugged terrain in the area as well as ground conditions are slowing rescue operations, the sheriff’s office said.

The type of aircraft and its flight plans were not released. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
