Update: 3-legged bear in Golden euthanized

Posted

Wildlife officials euthanized a three-legged black bear that had been hanging around Golden for the last several weeks because they were concerned about her health.

Jennifer Churchill, a spokeswoman for Colorado Parks and Wildlife, tells The Denver Post (http://goo.gl/QLCcMm ) the bear was getting into some beehives in the area and not moving on. Because the bear only had three legs, there were concerns about her ability to find food.

Churchill says officers tried to capture the bear and relocate it but were unsuccessful.

The bear, which is estimated to have been about 6 years old, was euthanized Sunday. However, Golden Police shared the photo Wednesday. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office commented on the post, sharing the update.

It's unclear how the bear lost part of her right leg, which was missing below her knee.
