DENVER – At least three pedestrians have been killed in crashes on Colorado highways in the past week.

A pedestrian died after being hit by a van on eastbound I-70 near Deer Trail Tuesday morning. Despite the area being in a construction zone, Colorado State Patrol confirmed the pedestrian was not a construction worker, though it is unclear why the person was on the highway.

Monday afternoon, an 18-year-old Florida woman who was apparently partially sitting in the southbound lane of Highway 285 south of Bailey was hit by a car and killed.

CSP says the woman had been walking along the shoulder when she sat down and was hit.

And last Tuesday, a 47-year-old Pueblo West man was hit by two SUVs and diedwhile walking on Highway 50 in Pueblo West.

The three pedestrian crashes are among several more fatal crashes on Colorado roadways in the past week. Statewide data shows there have been 370 total fatalities on Colorado roads through August of this year.

There were 507 fatal crashes in Colorado last year – the most since 2007.
