PITKIN COUNTY, Colo. — Aspen Mountain Ski Patrol helped a 15-year-old skier who became stranded in deep snow out of bounds of Aspen Mountain.

The Pitkin County Sheriff's said a call came through around 4 p.m. Wednesday for an out-of-bound skier off Aspen Mountain. The 15-year-old, who was visiting the Aspen area from New York, exited Aspen Mountain near Walsh's run, a double black diamond run off the east side of the mountain.

The skier, who was not equipped for backcountry travel, was stuck in deep snow and unable to hike back up to the ski area boundary, according to the sheriff's office. Two Aspen Mountain Ski patrollers and Mountain Rescue Aspen Team members helped escort him to safety.

It was later learned a second 15-year-old skier exited Aspen Mountain, had been separated from his ski partner and hadn't returned, however, he was later located safe in town.

A press release from the sheriff's office read, in part:

"The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, Aspen Mountain Ski Patrol, and Mountain Rescue Aspen would like to remind everyone of the importance of being aware of their surroundings. Ski area boundaries are clearly marked for skier safety, and everyone should be prepared for the unexpected when traveling in the backcountry."
