15-year-old boy identified as New Year's Day homicide victim in Denver

DENVER – A 15-year-old boy has been identified as the victim of an early-morning homicide on New Year's Day in southwest Denver, officials said.

Wayli Alvarado-Gonzalez died of "sharp force injuries," according to the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner. His death was ruled a homicide.

Police found Alvarado-Gonzalez injured about 3 a.m. outside of a 7-Eleven gas station near W. Jewell Avenue and S. Sheridan Boulevard. He was taken to Denver Health, where he died.

Police said officers had responded to the gas station on a report of an assaulted person, but more information about the incident hasn't been released. No arrests have been reported.
