Homes in Jeffco told to prepare to evacuate

Twelve homes in Jefferson County have been told to prepare to evacuate as officials watch a grass fire burning in Golden Gate Canyon.

The fire, dubbed the Black Hawk Ridge Fire, is estimated to be a half-acre in sizse and growing near the Gilpin County border.

Level 1 evacuation notices, which tells residents to prepare to leave, were sent to 12 houses in the area, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said.

The fire, which is burning in timber, is near 33000 Golden Gate Canyon Road.

No structures are immediately threatened, the sheriff's office said.

One helicopter is dropping water on the fire.
