10 Colorado High Schools honored by Newsweek in America's Top 500 High Schools for 2016 list

DENVER -- Ten high schools in Colorado have made Newsweek's list of America's Top 500 High Schools for 2016.

Newsweek said it assessed the schools based on a broad range of data to determine which institutions do the best job of preparing students for college.

The top Colorado schools are:

• D'Evelyn Jr/Sr High School, Denver  (Ranked No. 46)
• Colorado Early Colleges Fort Collins  (Ranked No. 79)
• DSST: Stapleton High School  (Ranked No. 153)
• Jefferson Academy High School, Broomfield (No. 272)
• Monarch High School, Louisville   (No. 316)
• Chaparral High School, Parker   (No. 329)
• Grandview High School, Aurora  (No. 414)
• ThunderRidge High School, Highlands Ranch  (No. 458)
• The Classical Academy High School, Colorado Springs   (No. 459)
• TCA College Pathways, Colorado Springs  (No. 496)

Newsweek said its analysis included proficiency rates on state standardized assessments in addition to the number of counselors, college acceptance rates and enrollment, SAT and ACT participation and performance, AP, IB, and AICE participation and performance and dual enrollments.

Only three of the Colorado schools on Newsweek's list made the U.S. News and World Report list of best High Schools in the country in April.

U.S. News and World Report said it looked at graduation rates, college readiness, how disadvantaged students perform and other factors.
