DENVER – One person is dead and another is recovering after being rescued from the South Platte River in Denver early Tuesday.
Rescue crews responded to the river near Confluence Park around 11:30 p.m. Monday.
A group of witnesses at the scene told Denver7 that the group was playing in the water when the victims followed them in. Neither group had any kind of floatation devices or life vests.
The victims, a 45-year-old man and a 60-year-old man went missing and a search began.
Rescue crews were able to locate both men by about 1 a.m. but the 45-year-old was deceased. The 60-year-old was taken to an area hospital.
Both men are believed to be homeless and suspected of being intoxicated at the time.
