JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — The driver of a car is dead after it plunged into Clear Creek Saturday afternoon.
Rescue crews recovered the man's body from the water in Golden after it had floated downstream, state patrol officer Ivan Alvarado said.
The crash was reported around 3 p.m. at mile marker 276 on US 6.
The Colorado State Patrol tweeted around 4 p.m. that a swift water rescue operation was underway. About an hour later, CSP tweeted that the victim’s body was pulled from the creek in Golden. His identity has not been released.
Authorities do not believe the car had any other occupants. An Arvada Fire dive team searched the bottom of the creak around the car and didn’t find anyone else.
The highway through the canyon was closed for several hours while crews used a ladder truck to remove the vehicle from water.
The Colorado State Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
