DENVER – A woman died in a police shooting after a police chase and carjacking that spanned three jurisdictions Friday morning.
Police initially responded to reports of a carjacking in Littleton shortly after midnight where a victim reported being shot at by two men and two women who took the victim's vehicle.
When police located the suspects in the early morning, they took off, leading police on a lengthy chase that spanned across three different cities, eventually ending in Denver when police attempted several techniques to end a chase.
That’s where a shootout took place, though it’s not clear who shot first. Police believed the suspects were armed, however in an 11:15 a.m. press update, officers said they couldn't reveal details regarding who shot first.
Two women, identified as the two female suspects behind the carjacking, were on the receiving end of police fire. One woman died on the scene, and the other is in critical condition in a nearby hospital.
Officers say they haven't yet located the two men who reportedly were also initially involved, but weren't present during the car chase.
Littleton and Englewood police both said none of their officers were hurt.
Santa Fe Drive was closed for several hours due to the investigation. The road was back open to traffic just after rush hour at 9 a.m.
