The Boulder County Sheriff's Office says it took a village to corral a llama named Ethel who escaped from her pasture in Niwot, north of the city of Boulder.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Carrie Haverfield says Ethel's owner called the office just before 10 a.m.

Tuesday seeking help getting the llama home from another pasture near a state highway and a second busy road.

An animal control officer and a sheriff's deputy were dispatched.

Haverfield says Ethel was uncooperative and more assistance had to be called on.

At one point, passers-by formed a human fence.

Haverfield says it took more than two hours before Ethel was safe at home.
