Westminster brewery holding packages for community to stop porch pirates

WESTMINSTER, Colo. — A pint and piece of mind, that’s what a brewery in Westminster is offering this holiday season.

Frolic Brewing Company is helping its neighbors fight off porch pirates. They are allowing anyone to send their packages straight to the brewery, letting them pick them up whenever is convenient — free of charge.

Chris Miser, the owner of Frolic Brewing Company, started the idea in mid-November.

“We are a community brewpub up in North Westminster so we just wanted to help out our neighbors," Miser said.

He said the day after Thanksgiving the brewery received ten packages. He’s expecting to get upwards of 200 by the end of the season.

Mike Pollard, who lives near the brewpub and uses the services, told Denver7 he enjoyed having the piece of mind that comes with knowing his packages are safe.

“You hear stories of all the porch pirates out there,” he said. ”I’m not at my home all the time, neither is my wife, we are in the travel industry so we just find comfort in the goodwill that Chris has, that we can deliver our packages over here and not have to worry about not having them for Christmas Day," Pollard explained.

The system is simple.

"They’ll just include their Facebook name. Once the package arrives, I hop on Facebook and send them a message," he said.

The idea is spilling over to other communities across the Denver metro.

“Goat Patch Brewing, which is another veteran owned brewery in Colorado Springs, sent us a message just asking if they could run a similar program down there,” Miser said.

Miser added he will continue this service at least through the holidays and maybe beyond.
