ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. – The driver accused of striking and killing a Legacy High School student in Westminster back in December was charged Thursday for the crime.
Ana Faragoza, 60, of Thornton, was charged with one count of careless driving resulting in death by 17th Judicial District Attorney Dave Young.
Joren Edward Coates, 16, died instantly after he was hit in the area of 112th Avenue and Federal Boulevard on Dec. 3, 2016.
A person who called police said Faragoza had reportedly side swiped their car at 103rd Avenue before continuing north on Federal, where investigators said the driver struck the teen, who was standing on the northeast median at 112th.
Police believe alcohol or drugs were not a contributing factor in the crash.
Faragoza is due in Adams County court at 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 28.
