THORNTON, Colo. – One man is on the run and several others are in custody following a Saturday night officer-involved shooting in Thornton.
Thornton PD arrived at Creekside Place Apartments off Thornton Parkway at 6:13 p.m, on a call of shots fired.
Officers were initially focused on Building 2.
When officers arrived, they found one male suspect. That man took off on foot and an officer chased after him. The officer fired at the suspect and ended up wounding him near Building 8.
The man was taken to a local hospital. Denver7 was not immediately able to confirm his condition.
Officer Matt Barnes, with Thornton PD, said the officer involved is being put on paid administrative leave, per department policy.
Officers at the scene were able to recover one handgun between buildings 7 and 8.
Minutes later, police arrested two others -- a man and a woman -- in connection to the initial shots fired call.
"We did take two adult males into custody, one here was wounded by the officer, and then one that we encountered over at the mobile home park across the street with an adult female over there," Officer Barnes said Saturday night, as he addressed the media.
A fourth suspect got away on foot. Thornton Police said the man was dressed in black with a bandanna covering his face.
People in the area didn't want to identify themselves on-camera, fearing retaliation. However, a man named Jose told Denver7 that he's concerned about the group of kids who normally play outside of Building 2.
"I see mostly kids cause I'm here during the day and the nighttime activity -- I don't know much about that," Jose said.
