Stray dog needs home after porcupine encounter

A stray dog is looking for a new family and a new place to call home after a series of unfortunate events -- including a pretty rough run-in with a porcupine.

At just 1 year and 7 months old, Canello -- a neutered male, Boxer mix -- hasn't had the best life. He was first sighted running around Christmas Eve in the freezing temperatures. Almost two weeks later, on Jan. 6, he was spotted again, this time in Douglas County.

He was finally caught by a Parker Animal Control Officer on Thursday of this week. Unfortunately, most of his face was covered in porcupine quills.

The Parker Police Department said on their Facebook page that Canello is going to need some time to heal. After that, he's going to need the love of a new family to show him all that he's missed out for the past few weeks.

If you are interested in adopting Canello or helping with his medical needs, please contact the Buddy Center in Castle Rock at (303) 751-5772.
