Parker police donate blood for officer Lopez Jr.

Posted

Parker police officers will be donating blood as Denver officer Tony Lopez Jr. undergoes his third major surgery on Friday after being shot five times during a traffic stop this week.

Eight Parker Police Officers will donate at the Bonfils Blood Center in Highlands Ranch from 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in honor of Officer Lopez, and also to raise awareness of blood donation overall.

“We are honored to respond on Officer Lopez Jr.’s behalf. We are proud of and support our fellow law enforcement officers, as well as Bonfils Blood Center,” said Parker Police Chief David King.

On Tuesday, Officer Lopez pulled over James Wood, 36, on Federal Boulevard near 38th Avenue. Radio traffic indicates the suspect fired shots almost immediately after being pulled over. Lopez was shot a total of five times in an arm and both legs, but was able to survive thanks to quick-thinking paramedics
