Schools across state receive threatening calls

Schools in Colorado Springs and Pueblo were also evacuated Monday due to bomb threats. The Colorado Springs School and Liberty Point Elementary in Pueblo West were evacuated, according to our partners at KRDO-TV. The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office said the FBI and Joint Terrorism Task Force had been notified of the situation.

Christine Harms, the director of the Colorado School Safety Resource Center, told Denver7 that several schools across the country have received bomb threats via robocall over the last few months. Harms said some Colorado schools are evacuating, some are not, after talking with local police agencies.

Lakewood High School received a threatening call. Security and local law enforcement were informed and the school was not evacuated, according to Diana Wilson, a spokesperson for Jeffco Public Schools.

The Boulder County Sheriff's deputies and the Rocky Mountain Fire Department responded to the Nevin Platt Middle School on a bomb threat at 11:39 a.m.

"Deputies assisted the school staff in searching the school, with nothing unusual found. The threat was deemed not credible," According to a sheriff's office press release.

Officials with the Douglas County School District said no other schools in the district received threats and that Cherokee Trail was evacuated out of an abundance of caution.

Interference with staff, faculty or students of educational institutions carries a punishment of up to 18 months in jail and/or a $5,000 fine, according to Parker Police spokesperson Josh Hans.
