A woman was shot by her ex-boyfriend early Monday morning, police said.

The woman called police at 12:16 a.m. saying her ex-boyfriend was trying to break into her home on East 116th Avenue, near 117th and Washington, and had fired shots, Northglenn police said.

"Responding officers observed the suspect leaving the home on a black motorcycle," police said. "Officers pursued the suspect to the exit ramp from southbound I-25 to 84th Avenue where he crashed."

The suspect was hospitalized with serious injuries.

While officers were chasing the suspect, the police department said other officers went into the home and found the woman with multiple gunshot wounds in one of the bedrooms.

The woman was hospitalized in serious condition.

A neighbor caught a black motorcycle on a surveillance camera matching the description of the suspect's vehicle. He also caught the police response immediately afterward. Charles Augustine has lived in the neighborhood for 20 years and said he knows the victim and suspect.

"Yeah, it looked like [the suspect's] bike. We've worked on it before. I'm not going to say it was him... but yeah I think it was him," said Augustine. "We don't think much of this neighborhood anymore. We just think it's so sad that anybody would shoot anybody, besides shoot their girlfriend. It's just amazing. The saddest thing."
