LOVELAND, Colo. -- A wrong-way driver hit and killed a young woman late Monday night.

Police said a 44-year-old man driving a pickup truck went the wrong way on Eisenhower Boulevard (Highway 34), near Interstate 25, and crashed head-on into a car going the correct direction.

The man died. Police said the driver of the car, a 21-year-old woman, was also killed.

Investigators said physical evidence indicates the woman braked and swerved to avoid collision, but the vehicles still collided.

Several other drivers told police they had to avoid the pickup as it traveled the wrong way.

"Based on initial observations, it is believed speed, alcohol and/or drugs are a factor in the collision," Loveland police said in a statement sent to Denver7.
