LONGMONT, Colo. – A bicyclist was killed following a crash involving a train in Longmont Sunday, a spokesman of the police department told Denver7.
The city’s police and fire departments responded to a report of a crash between a train and a bicycle at Ken Pratt Blvd. and Nelson Rd. sometime before 12:41 p.m. The bicyclist was declared dead from injuries suffered in the crash.
Jeff Satur, the spokesman for the Longmont Police Department, said the train was going east at the time of the deadly crash.
Police believe the bicyclist was riding his bike on the north sidewalk of that intersection and crossed the tracks in front of the train before he was hit, according to witnesses at the scene.
Satur said the train was blowing its horn as it approached, and later crossed, the intersection. He also said the signals were functioning and that the arms for Ken Pratt Blvd. were down and the signal lights on and audible at the time of the crash.
That intersection was closed for several hours as investigators combed the scene and conducted interviews with witnesses.
