LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) -- A Longmont pilot escaped serious injuries when his small plane crashed after taking off from the Longmont airport on Saturday.
The Boulder County Sheriff's Office says the crash occurred when the engine suddenly lost power and the plane went down after the pilot took off from Vance Brand Airport.
Authorities say David Shenk maneuvered between cars on a nearby highway and crashed into a field, where the plane tipped over.
Shenk got out of the plane and was waiting for emergency responders. He did not have to be hospitalized.
The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.
