LONGMONT, Colo. — The City of Longmont is apologizing for disturbing the sleep of many of its residents early Thursday morning.
All of the city’s 17 tornado sirens malfunctioned around 4 a.m., causing the system to go off and blare a loud tone around the city for about an hour. Each siren has an 400-watt speaker.
The system is designed to be remotely controlled, but the glitch required crews to manually shut off the sirens at all 17 locations throughout the city
It’s unknown what caused the sirens to go off. The city has shut down the system and contacted the manufacturer.
