Case to proceed against Kyle Couch in crash that killed 8-year-old Peyton Knowlton on bicycle

LONGMONT, Colo. -- A judge has ruled there is enough evidence to move forward with the case against a man accused of driving under the influence of marijuana in a crash that killed an 8-year-old girl riding her bike in Longmont.

The case against Kyle Kenneth Couch was bounded over to district court Thursday, The Times-Call reports. The 20-year-old man faces several charges related to the May 20 crash, including vehicular homicide and DUI.

Couch is accused of running over and killing Peyton Knowlton as she rode in a crosswalk alongside her stepfather.

She was returning from an end-of-the-school year celebration with her fellow second graders.

Officers and fire personnel performed CPR on the girl, but were unable to save her. She died at Longmont United Hospital.

Investigators say marijuana was in Couch's system at the time of the collision.

But Couch's attorneys maintain prosecutors don't have enough evidence proving he was under the influence.

Couch will be arraigned on the charges in January.
