8-year-old girl killed in Longmont crash ID'd

An 8-year-old girl who was killed in a crash while riding her bike in Longmont has been identified by the Boulder County Coroner's Office. 

Peyton Knowlton was riding her bicycle with her stepfather at her side, when she was struck by a full-size Ford pickup in the area of Alpine Street and East 17th Avenue at around 3:20 p.m. Friday, according to an official with Longmont police.

The driver, a 20-year-old male, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. He was released pending further investigation. 

Officers and fire personnel performed CPR on the girl, but were unable to save her. She died at Longmont United Hospital.

An autopsy will be completed and the cause and manner of death are pending further investigation.

Family friends have set up a GoFundMe account to help the bereaved parents.
