LITTLETON, Colo. -- Waterton Canyon will be closed this weekend, October 8 and 9, and possibly next weekend, Oct. 15 and 16, because of construction traffic.
Denver Water started a maintenance project last month at Strontia Springs Dam. Crews are also completing repairs to the High Line Canal diversion structure in the South Platte River.
During the projects, Waterton Canyon has been closed on weekdays, but open on weekends.
However, Denver Water said there will be heavy construction traffic in the canyon this weekend, "creating unsafe conditions for recreationists."
Waterton Canyon is popular with hikers, bikers, walkers and anglers.
Visitors wanting to access the Colorado Trail during the closures can get details on the Roxborough Park and Indian Creek alternatives on the Colorado Trail's website.
