DENVER -- A man dressed in a Santa suit who stabbed a bus passenger in Lakewood on Christmas Eve has been sentenced to eight years in prison.

Brian Delorme, 35, was sentenced last week after striking a deal with prosecutors and pleading guilty to second-degree assault, according to the Denver Post.

Investigators say Delorme was wearing a full Santa suit when he stabbed the man on a public bus in Lakewood shortly after 1 a.m. on Dec. 24, then fled on foot. The victim, whose name has not been released, survived.

Delorme had been arrested on theft charges in Arizona, Mississippi and Colorado dating back to 2001. Between 2001 and 2010, he was arrested four times on theft charges.
