The man hit and killed by an elderly driver Tuesday was just standing on the sidewalk, waiting for a bus, when the driver plowed into him.
The victim, 51-year-old Franklin Nelson, was from Colorado Springs.
"Nelson was standing on the east side of Wadsworth Blvd and was hit by a vehicle that was traveling eastbound on 4th Ave.," Lakewood police said. He died a few minutes later at a nearby hospital.
Police said the driver, 81-year-old Charles Tatman, lost control while crossing Wadsworth Boulevard, going 50 mph. The driver hit the victim, then crashed into the Walmart on Wadsworth near 6th Avenue.
Tatman a ticketed for careless driving resulting in death.
