LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Human remains were found near a trail on Green Mountain in Lakewood on Thursday morning, officials said.
Police were called about 7:30 a.m. to the trail near the intersection of West Alameda Parkway and West Utah Avenue, where a hiker came across bones and called 911.
The bones appeared to be human, police said, and may have been at the location for a long period of time. Police found a handgun at the scene but said it was too early to determine the cause of death.
The bones will be sent off for testing to determine how old they might be.
