A good Samaritan trying to help a driver on 6th Avenue in Lakewood was hit and killed.
Lakewood police said a bicycle fell off the top of a car on 6th Avenue, just east of Indiana Street, around 8:52 p.m. Sunday.
"The driver stopped, pulled over and retrieved the bicycle," police said in a statement sent to Denver7.
Another vehicle stopped and the people inside helped get the bicycle.
When those people got back in their vehicle, police said they were rear-ended by a third vehicle.
A passenger in the stopped vehicle died at the scene. The driver of the stopped vehicle had minor injuries.
The driver of the third vehicle was not injured.
"Investigators do not believe speed to be a factor in the crash," police said. "At this time, it is unknown if alcohol or drugs are factors in the crash."
Police said they are still investigating the crash.
