A gunman who shot two suburban Denver police officers has been sentenced to 120 years in prison.

The Denver Post reports 56-year-old Gordon Lee Moench Jr. was sentenced Thursday for the July 5, 2014, shooting. He was convicted in May of multiple counts, the most serious of which were attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault with a deadly weapon.

Moench, who told 911 dispatchers he was armed with three guns and ready to hurt people, fired from the back of his truck when Lakewood officers arrived at his home.

One of the officers was shot through the windshield of his squad car, and a second was shot as she approached the home on foot. A third officer returned fire and wounded Moench.

Moench told investigators he was trying to commit "suicide by cop."
