LAFAYETTE, Colo. – A man who was killed in a crash in Lafayette on Tuesday has been identified by the Boulder County coroner.

Douglas Malcom, 63, of Broomfield, was killed in a crash near Highway 287 and Isabelle Road Tuesday.

A statement from Cultivate, a civic and social organization that helps seniors connect with the community, said Malcolm, who was identified as a veteran outreach specialist for the organization, had lived in Colorado for 35 years and was an honorably discharged veteran who served for over 20 years, mainly with the Colorado Air National Guard.

"It is with a heavy heart and a great deal of sadness that we regret to inform you that Doug Malcom, our Veteran Outreach Specialist, and Duncan, his beloved goldendoodle, tragically passed away yesterday, February 1. Doug was in a car accident on his way home from work and was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries," the statement read. "Our staff, board and entire community are devastated at this loss."

The cause and manner of death are pending further investigation.
