DougCo officials looking for car crash suspects

Posted

A car crash on C-470 between University and Quebec Thursday morning led Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies on a search for at least two people that lasted several hours.

Deputies say one man and one woman ran from the accident scene south toward the Palomino Park housing development and the Links Golf Course.

Golf course management says they quickly got their employees to safety.

“We pulled everybody off the golf course this morning, we didn’t want any of our employees in a bad situation so had everyone come in, kept the building locked up,” said Jason Brandt, who’s the General Manager at the course.

Brandt said he’s not surprised that they chose to hide around the golf course.

“There’s a couple different drainage ditches and then just tons of buildings around the property that they could hide, so there was definitely a pretty big police presence looking at about every square inch of the property this morning,” said Brandt.

Ray Kite lives on the course and spotted three people running up hold #14 on the course and then saw them jump a couple of fences.

“They came up along the fence right by my house and then hopped the fence and that’s when I came out and hollered at them and I said ‘You can’t just be trespassing in somebody else’s property,’” said Kite.  “One of them made a b-line up the side of the house, the tall guy basically said ‘Oh, we’re lost we just need to make our way back over to the street.’”

Deputies say one witness reported seeing one of them holding a knife, so nearly 10 Douglas County Schools were put on lockout. That lockout lasted several hours.

As of early Thursday evening, deputies still hadn’t caught up with the suspects.

If you have any information that can help them out, you’re asked to call the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
