GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. – Greenwood Village residents voted almost 3-to-1 Tuesday in a special election to deny extra development near the Orchard light rail station.
Though the vote still has to be finalized, unofficial numbers show 4,613 people voted against the measure, while 1,479 voted for it.
The extra development near the light rail station had been an amendment to the city’s comprehensive development plan. The city’s planning and zoning commission approved the amendment last October, and city council approved it in late March.
Had voters approved the amendment, the light rail stop would have been the center point for a large mix-used development.
The rest of the city’s comprehensive plan will go ahead as planned, the city’s mayor said.
