One of two breaking-and-entering incidents on a single Greeley street left a man dead Wednesday.
Police first responded to a house on 21st Street near 68th Avenue just before 11 a.m. The homeowner said a woman was found in their house. She left once she was confronted, and the homeowner called police.
As Greeley Police investigated this call, two men living next door approached the officers to say a man broke into their home, as well. They said the man showed a gun once he was confronted, which led to a shootout. The residents shot the suspect and left to talk to the officers outside.
Officers then took the two men and one of their girlfriends to the police station for questioning.
The SWAT team arrived next, blocking off streets and telling neighbors to stay inside. Members of the Greeley Bomb Team sent a robot into the home. The robot found the trespassing suspect dead in the basement.
Police are interviewing witnesses and neighbors.
The name of the man who died hasn’t been released.
