Greeley Commission rejects oil, gas wells

Posted

The Greeley Planning Commission has rejected plans for new oil and gas wells in west Greeley, as residents vocally opposed the project so close to home.

The Greeley Tribune reports that the commission unanimously voted to deny Extraction Oil and Gas' project. The vote came after about two hours of public comment that was overwhelmingly against the project.

The company has 10 business days to appeal the decision to the Greeley City Council.

The plan was to build a facility 14-acre piece of a 69-acre property, which also is surrounded on all sides by about nine existing well sites. There are two existing wells and tanks on the site already.

Opponents voiced concerns about everything from the city's growing reputation to health and traffic concerns.
