Clark Griswold has competition this year with 'Greeley Grizwalds' lighting display

Posted
GREELEY, Colo. -- Thanksgiving is now over, so it's time to put up those Christmas lights -- and one man in Greeley is taking that to the extreme.

Mike Medhurst is known as "The Greeley Grizwald." He annually decorates his entire home with a lighting display that rivals the 1989 movie "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation."

He says he has over 150,000 lights, roughly 25 animated figures, and a tree that he says "Christmas threw up on."

"It just got to be bigger and bigger year after year," Medhurst said.

He's been putting up the display that's synced to music since around 2006, naturally bringing in people from all over the area.

"It's usually pretty overwhelming even for people who know they're coming to see this. It's not the same until you see it in person," he said.

The Greeley firefighter has had to up his home's power output to take run all of the lights. The one secret? The electric bill.

"The display takes on a life of its own," he laughed.

The Christmas tradition starts on Black Friday, with light shows every night until New Years.
