GREELEY, Colo. -- A police officer suspected of causing a fatal crash in what authorities say was a road rage incident in northern Colorado has pleaded not guilty to vehicular homicide.

Blair Jackson entered his plea Wednesday for the June 1 crash that killed 39-year-old Esteban Moreno Jr., The Greeley Tribune reports. A jury trial is set for Feb. 6, 2017.

Investigators say the Ault officer, who was not on duty and was driving his personal vehicle, crashed into Moreno's pickup truck south of Greeley, causing it to roll. Moreno died at the scene.

Witness reported both drivers were tailgating each other and cutting each other off before the crash. According to court records, Jackson told authorities Moreno caused the wreck.

Jackson was a police officer in Fort Collins from April 1996 to July 2008, when he resigned from his post.

Court records show Jackson was cited for careless driving resulting in injury on Jan. 26, 2016 in Centennial. He pleaded guilty to the lesser offense of Unsafe or Defective Vehicle and paid a $85 fine.

An attempt to find a phone number for Jackson was unsuccessful Wednesday night.
