ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Englewood City Hall went on a brief lockdown late Wednesday afternoon as police responded to an emergency inside the building, a dispatch spokesperson told Denver7.

People who were inside the building before it was placed on lockdown told Denver7 reporter Lance Hernandez that officers came into City Hall with their guns drawn and also heard officers say there was someone in the building with a gun.

The suspect was allegedly caught stealing items from inside private city offices and was confronted by a staff member. An altercation ensued and the staff member reportedly saw the man had a handgun in his waistband, according to Sergeant Chad Read of the Englewood Police Department. The suspect then ran from the scene.

No one was injured.

RTD services to the Englewood station were temporarily suspended but everything was back to normal at around 5:35 p.m.
