DENVER — Shannon Swanson moved into her west Denver home seven years ago and just last year, she met Stanley Walters. Their plans of getting married and living their life together were interrupted after their home collapsed in the middle of the night.
Swanson said as they were getting ready to sleep, she heard a loud rumbling noise coming from the other side of the house. As she went to see what had happened, she was shocked beyond belief.
"It took me a minute to realize that the whole wall was gone and you could see the outside," Swanson said.
Both of them managed to get out of their home safely and, luckily, their 11-year-old son wasn't in the home.
Their neighbor, Linda Dieter, was also advised to leave her home out of fear the Swanson's home could collapse and fall onto hers.
Swanson said her insurance company will not cover any of the damages and hasn't received a reason why.
"It's devastating. I mean, this is our home and it's a happy home, it's a place where you walk in and you feel like people that love each other live there," she said.
The city is waiting to hear from the family's engineer to give a report on whether the home can be saved or if it has to be demolished.
The family told Denver7 they plan on hiring a lawyer to fight the insurance company. In the meantime, they have set up a GoFundMe account to help raise money for much-needed repairs.
