Victim's friends help police make arrest

Posted

Two would-be thieves tried to rob the wrong person Wednesday night on the Auraria Campus.

Officials say the victim's friends chased the suspects and helped police arrest one of the suspected robbers.

The group of friends said they were walking near the intersection of 7th and Walnut streets on the Auraria Campus around 8 p.m. Wednesday when two strangers walked up, pushed one person to the ground and tried to steal that victim's backpack.

"The suspects fled on foot, southbound on 7th Street, then split up, with one suspect running west, and the other running southwest," a campus alert from Auraria Campus police said.

The victim and friends chased the suspects while calling police.

Officers arrested one suspect near the Auraria West light rail station. The other suspect got away. He's described as an Hispanic man about 6 foot tall and 230 pounds. He had short black hair and a thin mustache. In the chase, the suspect lost one of his shoes.

If you know the suspect or saw the crime, call the Auraria Campus Police Department at 303-556-5000.
