'Sock it to 'em' campaign aims to cover the feet of our homeless

Posted

DENVER -- The Sock It To 'Em campaign was founded by Sue Lee in 2011.

When the entrepreneur recognized how many Americans face harsh winter cold temperatures and dampness with inadequate protection for their feet, she asked her friend Phillis Shimamoto to join her in 2012 to form the campaign.

It has exploded since then and the women have even gotten law enforcement involved in the movement.

In 2015, the campaign collected almost 40,000 pairs of socks. In 2016, more than 55,000 pairs of socks were collected.

There is also a big event coming up involving law enforcement. The Cops, Socks and Sandwiches campaign will help kickoff the 2017 season of keeping the homeless warm and dry.
