DENVER -- A Denver woman whose two children were injured in a fire while she left them alone at home has been sentenced to 10 days in jail and four years' probation.
Rocio Arroyo-Reyes had pleaded guilty to two counts of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury.
The children, ages 3 and 5, were found hiding inside the burning home at 355 S. Eliot Street on Sept. 29.
The kids were not found during a primary search of the home, but since Denver Fire Department policy is to conduct two searches, firefighters found them during their secondary search.
The children were unconscious, and rushed to the hospital in critical condition, according to the arrest affidavit.
Arroyo-Reyes told detectives that she had to go to her older son's school to give him his medication and she had only been gone for about 5 minutes when she received notification about the fire and returned home.
The landlord told Denver7 that he warned the parents -- who both work -- that they had to stop leaving the two kids alone.
