DENVER -- An area of the RiNo Art District on the South Platte River was officially activated as an entertainment district Friday.

AEG Live Rocky Mountains partnered with Bernard Hurley to produce the first RiNo Music Festival. The music festival kicked off the development of six acres in the heart of the RiNo District.

Bernard Hurley owns the land and plans to develop it into a mixed use space focused on arts in the outdoors.

“We’re really excited to be able to create this legacy project for the City of Denver and create a sense of place for families and for individuals,” said Hurley.

For 20 years, Hurley has been buying the connecting properties around where the Blue Moon Brewery now sits.

He’s turning it into Hurley Place which will include spaces like a beer garden, bike-in movie theater and several music venues.

One of the music venues is a 5,000-person space called RiNo Live where the inaugural RiNo Music Festival was held.

Construction won’t actually start until around September of 2017, but the project is expected to be done in five years.

The Hurley Place’s development kicks off as the city plans to develop a mixed-use park right next door. This will also redevelop the South Platte River front.

Hurley hopes to have other music acts out at RiNo Live during construction.
