Denver Police are looking for a person of interest in a recent homicide. District 5 officers held roll call in the Montbello area as they asked for tips to solve the killing.
Varnell Jenkins, 29, was shot and killed outside a business plaza at 4660 Peoria Street on January 23.
"I knew who he was, I know exactly who he is. He's up here all day, every day until this happened," said a friend of the victim who did not want to give her name.
Some friends of Jenkins told Denver7 they knew who killed him.
"[It] makes it that much more important that we have this relationship with the community because they're likely to give us information like that, if we maintain this connection," said Denver Police Commander Ron Thomas.
Commander Thomas said he is trying to strengthen the relationship with the community after the homicide and other recent crimes. He is hoping people won't be afraid to step up with information that will ultimately lead to an arrest.
"I'm glad that they're out here and I'm glad that they're trying to support the community and that means a lot to me," said Darrell Parker, a friend of the victim.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-STOP.
