A suspect shot by Denver Police on Monday has died.

Denver Police said officers were patrolling a hotel parking lot at 26th Avenue and Zuni Street around 4 p.m. when they spotted a stolen vehicle.

Officers said while they were talking to the hotel staff about the stolen vehicle, workers said they might have someone trying to commit credit card fraud and that a Toyota RAV 4 might be involved.

When officers went to check out the RAV4, they said a man, now identified as 32-year-old Ramone Lonergan, stepped out of that vehicle, refusing orders and brandishing a weapon. Police fired shots.

Lonergan was struck and taken to the hospital, where he later died, police said. The medical examiner reports Lonergan's death was the result of multiple gunshot wounds.

No officers were hurt.

Denver police said two officers who fired their weapons are on administrative leave, which is standard protocol.
