A former manager for the Denver-area Regional Transportation District has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for taking bribes from a contractor.
The Denver Post reports 62-year-old Kenneth Hardin was sentenced Thursday and ordered to pay $4,000. He was convicted in February of three counts related to accepting bribes in connection with his official duties as a senior manager at RTD.
Federal investigators say Hardin's duties at RTD included directing and managing the operations of RTD's Civil Rights Division. Authorities say that in exchange for cash, Hardin lobbied RTD to renew Access-a-Ride contracts in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
He was paid $117,285 annually in his job.
Hardin's attorney sought probation, arguing that his client has health issues. Prosecutors said the Federal Bureau of Prisons could provide adequate medical care.
